Jeter sux, A-Rod rox?...Statistics say so

Statistician Shane Jensen has been crunching the numbers on defense in baseball.  It turns out, in terms of fielding the ball, and actually making the plays, some pretty surprising things happen.

Jeter For instance, statistics say that Derek Jeter is among the worst shortstops in the league, completely unexpected.

A-RodBut by the same statistical method A-Rod really is as great as everyone says.  Granted he has some more data available from when he was with Houston.

Now, this statistical stuff is pretty new.  Not the actual methodology but just the fact that they are compiling defensive stats in this way.  Prior to this there has been much more focus on offensive stats; maybe now that will change.  Then again, there is another statistical formula that says that someone who has a higher batting average every year can actually appear to have a lower lifetime batting average.  Go figure, but I'll still watch.
